The 2011 award winner is Dominic Hares who is currently coming to the end of his UK training as a paediatric cardiologist, having commenced this in Bristol and subsequently Cardiff and Leeds. As a particular sub-specialty area, he has an interest in the electrical workings of children's hearts, an area that remains under-represented in the UK with only 6 consultants nationwide and no current formal training opportunities available. Dominic has been lucky enough to be offerred a position at Toronto "Sick Kids" children's hospital, training for a year in paediatric electro-physiology and pacemaker insertion, and hopes to bring this experience back to the UK following his fellowship. We are thrilled that he has a desire to set up a programme on his return, so that we can train the electrophysiologists of the future and better serve the children of the UK.
